Whether a shipment moves on an original BL, a seaway bill, or a release mechanism decides how cargo is collected at destination and how much courier time the originals add. Original BLs are usually issued in a set of three, and any one surrendered original takes delivery. The choice of BL type is an operational decision the forwarder makes per shipment, not a formality.

Bill of Lading (BL)
The transport document a carrier issues to the shipper that does three jobs at once: a receipt for the goods, evidence of the contract of carriage, and a document of title that controls who can take delivery.
